About Revontuli

Revontuli is a small collection of picture puzzles built around northern nature: aurora nights, lakes and archipelago, snow forests, reindeer, berries and autumn fells. Every picture can be played as a jigsaw, as sliding tiles, as a swap puzzle and as a rotation puzzle, and there is a new daily puzzle every day.

The name is Finnish for the northern lights. Literally it means “fox fires”, from an old tale about an arctic fox whose tail throws sparks of snow into the sky.

The pictures

The thirty pictures are computer-generated scenes made for this site. They are not photographs of particular places, and the texts describe what is in each picture rather than claiming where it was taken. Each picture was made once, for this site only.

How the site works

Everything runs in your browser. There are no accounts, no adverts, no analytics and no cookies. Your saved games, best times and streaks are kept in your browser’s local storage and never leave your device.

The site is available in English, Italian, Hungarian and Finnish; the puzzles speak the same language as the page.
