Aurora corona above the fell

Jigsaw · 12 to 198 pieces

About the picture

When the aurora is almost straight overhead, its rays seem to meet at a single point — a perspective effect known as a corona. Here the rays fan out in green and violet over a bare, snow-covered fell, while small spruces in the foreground are so loaded with snow and rime that they look like pale columns lit from above.

Computer-generated scene; it does not show a specific real place.

How to approach this jigsaw

Start with the frame: switch on Edges and only border pieces stay on the table. After the frame, build the parts with strong shapes and colour: the aurora rays, the snow-loaded spruces, the stars.

Leave for the end: the night sky, the open snow. Pieces from these areas look alike, so match them by the shape of their tabs and blanks rather than by colour.

Picture character

Large areas of nearly one tone — a slow, absorbing puzzle. A smaller size makes a good warm-up. Demanding →
